Why Water?

Water creates the conditions for life, education and community development. Access to clean water, provides current and future generations life, health and hope for those underprivileged and lacking these basic necessities. Clean water affords the opportunity to not only survive but thrive.

The Water Crisis

  • 844 Million people living without access to safe water

  • Today, 1 in 9 people lack access to safe water and 1 in 3 people lack access to a toilet.

  • 200 Million hours women and girls spend every day collecting water

  • Women and girls are disproportionately affected by the water crisis, as they are often responsible for collecting water. This takes time away from work, school and caring for family. The lack of water and sanitation greatly increases risk and exposure to acts of violence and locks women in a cycle of poverty.

  • 1 Million people killed by water, sanitation and hygiene-related disease each year

  • Every 15 seconds a child dies from waterborne illness -3rd leading cause of global childhood death greater than all acts of war and violence, Aids, Malaria and Tuberculosis combined
